Helpdesk & Service Desk Support
Need quick help? Call, text, or email me and I'll get you back to work โ usually over a remote session, with nobody driving anywhere. Homes and small offices in Valdosta and South Georgia.
Get Help NowThe Helpdesk Is Me
When a bigger company says "helpdesk," they mean a phone queue, a ticket number, and whoever picks up. When I say it, I mean me. Browning PC LLC is a one-person shop in Valdosta, so the person who answers your call is the one who fixes the problem and sends the bill. There's no tier one to get past.
The helpdesk is the everyday channel โ the "something's wrong, can you look at it?" calls that don't need a whole IT department or a bench repair. Many of these are quick fixes once somebody who does this all day is looking at the screen. Here's how to reach me, what happens next, and what it costs.
How to Reach Me, and What Happens Next
They all land with the same person.
1. Call or Text
229-561-1674. Text me a photo of the error message; I can often tell you what it is before we talk.
2. Email
ricky@browningpc.com. Best for anything that isn't urgent, or when you want to attach a screenshot.
3. Book Online
The booking page lets you pick a time that suits you instead of playing phone tag.
4. A Few Questions
What changed, what's on the screen, who's affected. Then we decide: fix it remotely now, or schedule a visit.
I'll tell you up front whether it sounds like a remote fix or a visit, and what that's likely to cost. You approve the cost before I start any work. If it's something I don't do, I'll say so instead of billing you to find out.
What a Remote Session Looks Like
Most helpdesk work happens over a remote session. Here's the whole thing in plain English. For a one-off session, you sit at the computer, I send you a link or a short code, and you approve the connection โ I can't get in until you do. Then I see your screen and can move the mouse and type, as if I were in your chair. You watch everything I do and can take control back whenever you want.
When it's fixed, I disconnect and the session is over; I don't leave a door open for next time. (Plan and managed clients have the monitoring agent instead โ see the remote monitoring page.) What a remote session can't fix is a computer that won't turn on or get online โ there's nothing to connect to, so that becomes a visit.
The Calls a Helpdesk Actually Gets
None of these are dramatic. All of them stop you working.
Password resets and lockouts
Locked out after too many tries, or you changed it on one device and the others stopped working. I walk you through the reset and get every device back in step.
Email that stopped syncing
New mail quits showing up on your phone, or the mail program keeps asking for a password it already has. Usually a stale password or a setting that changed.
A printer that's offline
One of my most common calls. Usually a network hiccup, a stuck print job, or the printer got a new address and the computer still has the old one.
A program throwing errors
The accounting program won't open, or a box pops up with a code nobody can read. Read me the code, or text me a picture of it.
"Is this email a scam?"
Forward it to me before you click anything. Five minutes telling you it's fake beats an afternoon cleaning up after it.
A new employee's first login
Somebody starts Monday and needs an account, an email address, and a computer that signs in. Tell me before Monday.
A phone that won't join the office Wi-Fi
The password's right but it won't connect, or it connects and nothing loads. Often fixable remotely from a computer that's already on.
Try This First, Then Call
I write up the fixes I do most often so you can try them before you pay me to. If it works, you saved a call. If not, you've ruled out the easy stuff โ and a shorter call is a cheaper call.
- Fix a printer that's offline or won't print
- Reset your Windows password
- Reset your Google account password
- Spot a phishing scam before you click
The rest are in the How-To library. Hit a wall partway through? Call and tell me which step.
Why Most of It Never Needs a Drive Out โ and What It Costs
A locked account, a printer that dropped off the network, an email setting that flipped โ none of that needs me in your building. It needs me looking at your screen.
Remote support is $80 an hour, billed in 15-minute blocks with no minimum โ so a quick fix can be as little as $20. There is never a trip charge on remote work. A quarter hour to reset your password and check the other devices costs a quarter hour. That's why I push remote first: cheapest for you, fastest for me.
If it does need a visit โ the computer won't power on, a part is the problem, or there are several machines to touch โ I'll say so up front. On-site is $100 flat for the first hour, then $25 per 15 minutes. Travel is a flat trip charge by zone, $0 anywhere in Lowndes County, all published on the pricing page. If I'm not sure what's wrong yet, the $30 diagnostic covers finding out and is credited toward the repair. What a visit looks like is on the on-site visits page.
Hours, and the After-Hours Line
The helpdesk runs Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, closed weekends. Call or text; if I'm with another customer, I'll get back to you as soon as I'm free. I'm one person, and I'd rather say that plainly than promise a response time I can't always hold.
After hours there's an emergency line for what can't wait until morning โ an office that can't take payments, a machine everybody depends on gone quiet. It's billed at time-and-a-half, $150 an hour, for established clients and new clients who opt in. Details are on the emergency IT support page. If it can wait, let it wait; the same fix on a weekday morning costs less.
Putting the Helpdesk on Retainer
Everything above is pay-as-you-go: call when something breaks, pay for the time it takes, no contract for repairs or home service. Some people would rather budget it. Two ways to do that:
For a business, it's a managed IT package โ helpdesk calls bundled with the rest of what an office needs looked after, so your staff can call without wondering what it costs. The packages are on the managed IT pricing page. Want the whole IT department, not just the phone line? That's the office IT support page.
For a family, the home computer plans do the same for the house: helpdesk calls plus upkeep on everybody's devices.
If what you really want is fewer helpdesk calls, remote monitoring is the proactive half โ software on each machine that tells me about a failing drive or a missed update before it becomes a phone call.
Helpdesk Support โ Frequently Asked Questions
How do I reach the Browning PC helpdesk?
Call or text 229-561-1674, email ricky@browningpc.com, or book a time at browningpc.syncromsp.com/bookings. Texting a photo of the error message helps. I'll ask a few questions, tell you whether it sounds like a remote fix or a visit, and give you the cost to approve before I start.
How much does a helpdesk call cost?
Remote support is $80 an hour, billed in 15-minute blocks with no minimum, so a quick fix can be as little as $20, with never a trip charge. If it needs a visit, on-site is $100 flat for the first hour, then $25 per 15 minutes, plus a flat trip charge by zone that is $0 in Lowndes County.
What happens during a remote support session?
You sit at the computer and approve the connection, then I see your screen and control the mouse and keyboard while you watch. You can take control back at any point. When the fix is done I disconnect and the session ends. A computer that won't turn on or get online needs a visit instead.
Do you offer helpdesk support after hours or on weekends?
Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, closed weekends. Outside those hours there is an emergency line at time-and-a-half, $150 an hour, for established clients and new clients who opt in. If the problem can wait until the next business day, it costs less to wait.
Is the Browning PC helpdesk a team?
No. Browning PC LLC is one person, Ricky Browning, in Valdosta, Georgia. The person who answers the phone is the one who fixes the problem, so there is no ticket queue and no repeating yourself. If I'm with another customer when you call, I'll call back as soon as I'm free.
Something's in Your Way? Call.
Tell me what's on the screen and I'll tell you what it'll take โ usually a remote session, usually less than you'd expect.
