Even beloved household names aren't safe from cyberattacks. Krispy Kreme β the doughnut chain millions of us know and love β has reached a roughly $1.6 million settlement over a data breach that exposed sensitive personal information. If you've ever worked for the company, this one may affect you directly.
Krispy Kreme discovered a data security incident on November 29, 2024, in which an unauthorized party gained access to private information. The breach affected roughly 161,000 current and former employees. The exposed data included combinations of names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and financial account information β exactly the kind of details criminals use for identity theft.
Under the settlement, eligible class members have a few options:
If you think you qualify, file through the official settlement website rather than any link sent to you by email or text β scammers love to piggyback on real settlements with fake "claim now" pages.
If a company the size of Krispy Kreme can get hit, so can a small business here in South Georgia. The good news is that the basics go a long way:
Protecting employee and customer data isn't just good ethics β it's good business. A single breach can cost far more than prevention ever would.
